Depression or a history of depression, peptic ulcer disease, gall bladder disease, electroshock therapy, pheochromocytoma, pregnancy, lactation, a history or family history of Parkinson's disease.
Few, if any, adverse health effects are known if used properly in the designated therapeutic dosages under the supervision of a qualified healthcare practitioner. Potential side effects include stuffy nose, depressive mood, erectile dysfunction, alterations in reaction times and sedative effects. Do not drive or operate machinery if you have these latter effects. More rare precautions include hypotension, chest pain, arrhythmia, dyspnea and skin rash. Avoid using with alcohol as these effects can be potentiated. Discontinue use if under Drug Interactions, below. Not recommended fro pregnant or lactating women or for children under the age of 16. This product should be kept out of the reach of children.
Theoretical concerns and possible interactions:
May cause falsely high serum bilirubin tests, decreased urinary catecholamine excretion, increased blood glucose, false-positive urine guaiacols spot test results, reduction of urinary 17-hydrosycorticosteroid concentrations, increase of urinary 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid, increase or decrease in urinary 4-hydroxy-3-methoxy phenylethylene glycol, interference with 17-ketosteroid assays, trigger systemic lupus erythematosus cells in the blood, decrease urinary norepinephrine concentrations, activate peptic ulcers, thrombocytopenia, increase prolactin levels, decrease thyroxine levels, false negative tyramine test results, increase urinary vanillylmandelic acid.

Drug Interactions:
Alcohol: Concomitant use increases CNS-depressant effects.
Antihypertensive, diuretics: Concomitant use can potentiate the hypotensive effects of rauwolfia alkaloids.
Digoxin: Concomitant use can cause bradycardia, angina-like symptoms and arrhythmias.
Ephedrine: Concomitant use can reduce indirect-sympathomimetic drug activity.
Levodopa: Avoid concomitant use due to reduction of drug effectiveness and increase extrapyramidal motor symptoms.
Monamine oxidase inhibitors: Avoid concomitant use within several days - can increase the risk of hypertension and excitation.
Neuroleptics: Concomitant use can potentiate drug effects and rauwolfia effects.
Propranolol: Concomitant use can enhance beta-blockade to catecholamine-depleting effects of rauwolfia alkaloids.
Sympathomimetics: Concomitant use can cause an initial increase in blood pressure and enhance or prolong the pressor effects.
Tricyclic antidepressants: Concomitant use can decrease
effectiveness of rauwolfia alkaloids.
